How To: Custom Deck

I've custom painted a few decks. Flame deck peds especially. I've had many requests from people who wanted me to make one/paint one for them. Well how about this. An EASY way to have the most custom looking deck and you can do it yourself!!! Follow these pics and look for yourself. You CAN do it! Rick

PS: Lets start here, pretty ugly huh!

Now, lets make a template out of some cardboard.

Ok, now go down to the local K-Mart, Wal-Mart, etc. and find a really cool poster. Yeh, a poster!

Hmmmm.......Are you starting to get an idea?

Ok, were getting closer. Traced out the pattern and cut out the poster.

Glue the poster to the deck. I used contact cement that came in a spray can. Spray the deck, spray the poster, wait a few minutes then stick the two together. Be really careful! Once you stick it, it's done! It won't move and you won't be able to peel it off. Trim the edges of the poster with an exacto knife then paint the edge of the deck with the color of your choice.

Getting close now. Go to your local hardware store and find this stuff. It's a two part epoxy clear coat. You mix the two chemicals together and pour it on the deck. Smooth it out with your mixing spoon to get an even coat. This stuff will equal about 50 coats of regular clear coat in just one coat. You will also be able to do at least 4 or 5 decks out of these two bottles.

Here ya go. All done! Just wait at least 24 hrs to dry. The little air bubbles will go away and it stays just as shiny as you see it here. The finish stays durable and tough. You might think it will be slippery but believe me it's not. Have fun with it and post your custom decks! Rick
